"This is my Mom. She knits."

The day I realized that perhaps this knitting thing was a tad out of control was when my son introduced me to his teacher with "This is my mom. She knits." He said these words in the grave tone with which one would say "This is my mom. She's an alcoholic." There was a moment of silence, then uncomfortable laughter. Well ok, uncomfortable for me. The teacher thought it was pretty funny.

There have been other clues that my little hobby is getting out of hand. Like the fact that every picture my children ever drew of me contains knitting needles, 90% of everything I own is yarn, and my husbands face lights up on the rare occasion that I clean my knitting paraphernalia off the coffee table. Recently I decided to tackle all my UFO's (these are unfinished knitting projects for those of you unfamiliar with knitspeak). I layed them all out on the living room floor and this is what it looked like.

There are 96 items in this picture. I stared at the scene in shock for a while, and eventually came to this conclusion.  My problem is not that I knit too much (which is what my children think), that I have too much wool (which is what my husband would have you believe), or that I just don't have enough time, (which is what I tell myself).  My problem is that I don't FINISH anything. So that's when I decided to start a blog. Perhaps some accountability will help me finish those UFO's.

Now I needed a name for my blog. I asked everybody I knew. "I need something wise, beautiful, awe-inspiring and memorable" I said. My 14 year old daughter wrinkled up her nose at me and said "But it's a KNITTING blog."

And so it is...
